Charcoal Court Residence
A low-slung mid-century home in charred timber and stone, its dark mass settled into a courtyard garden of succulents and oaks.
A dark courtyard residence in charred timber and stone, settled under mature oaks.
Using Shou Sugi Ban Timber, Stacked Stone, Bronze-Anodised Glazing, Stone Pavers, the house grounds itself in shadow. Charred timber, stacked stone, and bronze-amber glazing produce a deliberately reticent presence under the oak canopy, glowing only at the entrance threshold.
A dark mass folded around an open courtyard. The garden is the centre of the house.
Set on a quiet oak-shaded lot, Charcoal Court Residence was completed in 2023 as a faithful reading of the courtyard-modernist tradition. The 270 m² home spans 1 above ground on a 1,900 m² lot, its low charred-timber elevations gathered around a path of stone pavers and succulents.
